Lucy Smith is a flash fiction, prose poem and short story writer. Her work has won fiction awards from Legend Press and Lancaster University and has appeared in Ink Sweat and Tears, Cease Cows, Lost Balloon, Popshot Quarterly, Palm-Sized Press, Ghost Parachute and others. She is in love with writing that challenges norms, that has brevity and warmth.
Originally from North West England, Lucy is currently based in Cardiff where she completed an MA in Creative Writing. She is the creator of Talking Ink, a podcast showcasing flash fiction and poems – for its most recent series she was interviewer at Seren Book’s annual Cardiff poetry festival.
She used to live in Belfast, where she hosted a public open mic night and ran creative writing sessions for children. In Cardiff she hosts community writing workshops, has taken on two residency projects and co-written an audio book for the Severn Estuary Partnership. She is currently working on a collection of flash fiction and has received funding to carry out an exciting new project with ceramicist Hannah Walters. Lucy was also co-host of weekly film podcast The Talkies and a podcast host for the Iris Prize LGBT+ Film Festival 2020.
